"Metallic" has been a theme in fashion for years, so I'm not sure why it's being touted as a key "trend" for the season, but whatever the case, I have noticed somewhat of a return to the dressy top and jeans ensembles that dominated going-out wear in the early-to-mid 2000's. After the black pants craze died down, a high-low aesthetic became de rigueur, as women paired embellished tops with their favorite low-rise, bootcut jeans and a pair of stilletos. In recent years, this look was supplanted by hipster fashion, which favored either a dressed-down downtown look, or over-the-top 80's-inspired regalia. It made sense -- who wants to spend a ton of money on a top you'll wear once before ruining with wine stains when you can recycle the same beer-spill-friendly tanks from American Apparel weekend after weekend? Here are a couple of blingy tops that beg you to reconsider. Sequins, lurex threads, and all things shiny have come to reclaim the night.
I wasn't sure if I was into this or not, but the more I stared at it, the more I liked. Plus, the ribbon tie at the back is kind of cute. Pat Benatar might've roughed it up a little and rocked it, way back when. Pair with spiky hair, tight jeans, and big earrings. $172 @ Standard Style.
Nicholas K's Rowan shirt is fancy shmancy. $401 @ Standard Style. While pretty, please consider how many times you'll actually wear it before purchasing.
