Shoe Thing

Sometimes when I feel an impulse purchase coming on, I try to put things in perspective by imagining two things I could buy for the price of that one, outrageously expensive item. To illustrate:

I am hankering after this Moschino Signature platform pump, $685 @ Zappos Couture.

However, I need to be thinking about my practical needs. I bought these Belle by Sigerson Morrison boots last year in black, and now that they're on sale, I might pick them up in this lovely caramel hue. I practically lived in them, wearing them at least a few times a week, and I've had them re-heeled twice already (not because of shoddy craftsmanship, but because I wear my shoes into the ground, pounding the urban pavements every day). They're buttery soft and versatile -- you can fold the top down or scrunch them down to change up the look -- and the heel isn't terribly high. They look cute whether worn with jeans or tights. Now available for $326 @ Zappos Couture.

Just for being good, I'd reward myself with these electric blue suede heels, also from Belle by SM. Because I am the type of person who'd wear such shoes day in and day out, this would actually be a practical purchase for me (as long as I remember to weather-proof). I have a somewhat similar pair of electric purple, pointy-toe Roberto Cavalli stillettos that, although fab, are too uncomfortable for long stretches. This one looks a lot more comfortable, with its low heel and slightly rounded toe, but packs the same punch with the shot of high-voltage color. Again, great with jeans or black tights. $293.95 @ Zappos Couture.
