Spring 2010 Fashion Week Favorites: Boy By Band of Outsiders

I just love it when preppy fashions are given the California treatment. For Spring 2010, Boy by Band of Outsiders does prep just the way I like it: classic East Coast cool infused with a laid-back West Coast attitude (via the 1970's -- even better). Maybe I'm crazy, but looking at this collection, I envisioned modern day versions of the identity-swapping twin sisters from The Parent Trap, left to their own devices in one another's closets and somehow emerging with a wardrobe that perfectly fused Sharon's traditional New England prepster with Susan's free-wheeling California girl. Think shrunken brass-button blazers paired with rolled-cuff trousers and aviators, ladylike cardigans over easy tent dresses, and tiny pencil skirts with oversized tops.

The coolest girl in school.

A loose, sheer drop-waist dress tossed over tailored short shorts.

Judging from the menswear, it seems Susan and Sharon's boy toys are in on the scheme, finding ways to dress up sweatshorts in a manner befitting a gentleman.

Gatsby goes West.
