I've met my dream rug - a handwoven wedding kilim from North Africa. The owner of Kira, a Copenhagen shop, travels to North Africa a few times a year to hand select kilims from Berber tribes and plucked this beauty. Unfortunately for me, it runs about EUR 700.

Fantasy Friday: All I Want for Xmas is Black Studded Alaias
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
If Dorothy lived in modern day NYC, these might be her magic slippers. With a slightly chunky heel, a delicate ankle strap, and glittering black studs all over, these suede peep-toe beauties are a total dream. It's a good thing the only sizes left are teeny tiny because they're oh so tempting (being a common 7.5 has been both a curse and a blessing -- story of my life).
Alaia Embellished Suede Sandals, available at The Outnet.

Fantasy Friday: Giuseppe Zanotti's Crystal Visions
I first glimpsed these crystal-studded Giuseppe Zanottis on one of my favorite, preternaturally stylish Parisiennes, Betty Autier of Le Blog de Betty (that's her modeling the bejeweled blush colored beauties -- the minty pedicure sets them off perfectly). She's been rocking them a lot lately and I love seeing what she'll pair them with next. I adore the juxtaposition of the chunky heel with the delicate ankle strap. They make me want to go out dancing.
There are a few pairs left at Barneys, going for a cool $899 (and mind you, that's the SALE price).

Fantasy Friday: Lady Camille
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
I'm getting on in years and think it's high time I invested in a chic old lady bag that I can grow old with. I can close my eyes and imagine this Marc Jacobs Camille Satchel elegantly perched on my lap 50 years from now. Structured, ladylike, and oozing refinement, I've got a feeling this one will age like a fine wine. If only I could say the same for myself . . .
Marc Jacobs Camille Satchel, $1875 @ Barneys. Available in rich dark brown or sleek black pebbled leather.

Fantasy Friday: 3.1 Phillip Lim's Perfect Kimini
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
How could a girl not feel gorgeous in this blush colored silk "kimini" (mini kimono?) by 3.1 Phillip Lim? It's like a modern-day version of the old Hollywood dressing gown. How I'd love to luxuriate in it's silky folds! And it would pair perfectly with Rosamosario's lace shorts. $495 @ Net-a-Porter.

Fantasy Friday: Umbra's Rolly Table
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
An inevitable result of spending more time indoors in the winter is that my attention turns to my home decor. I long for the day I'll have a place to furnish as my own, and have a running wish list of items I'd get if I could play art director for my home environs. If and when the day should come, I've got the perfect little side table in mind. The beautiful, three-legged Rolly table has a clever little sliding door that allows you to show or hide as you please. Designed by Matt Carr for Umbra. $315 @ Mxyplyzyk.

Oh, to be nestled in a cozy cabin in the snow-covered woods with this lovely thing dangling overhead. It's too bad such charm will set you back nearly 600 bones. Any suggestions for a DIY version are most welcome. One-of-a-Kind Log Cabin Pendant, $598 @ Anthropologie.

Fantasy Friday: Chloe Dionee Folding Sunglasses
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
This week's Fantasy Friday post is dedicated to one Clare Vivier. She has no idea who I am, or that she's been providing me with a steady source of inspiration ever since I happened upon her wonderful blog. I love, love, love her taste. At the moment, I'm living vicariously through her newly acquired Chloé Dionée foldable sunnies, the sight of which delights me on a level you can't even imagine. They fold up(!) and are housed in the most adorably chic case I have ever seen. Wouldn't you just love to hold this pretty little oyster in the palm of your hand?
They retail for $398 and are available in tortoise/gold, as seen here in Clare's pictures, or black/silver. The latter is currently available on Shopbop.

Fantasy Friday: Gucci, 1973
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
I'm not one for flashy logos, but this vintage Gucci reissue is a treasure. With its extra-long gold chain strap, I can just picture it dangling glamorously from a shoulder by night and bouncing happily against a hip by day. It comes in black and olive, and while not priced entirely out of range, I don't think I could justify the expense for a mini bag. If they could dream one up in a deep, rich hunter green I might be in trouble.
Gucci Leather 1973 Mini Shoulder Bag, $760 @Saks. Currently available in black or olive.

Fantasy Friday: Celine's Suede Dreams
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
On a recent visit to Jeffrey, I was, for the first time ever, quite disappointed with the shoe selection, which usually has me clutching my wallet close, fearful that I might lose all control and unleash some inner Teenwolf-esque beast I've not yet reckoned with. To be fair, they were in between seasons -- with the summer sale rack already picked clean and fall shipments only just starting to trickle in, it made sense that there wasn't much to salivate over. I lingered over shoes I'd never normally consider, only because the thought of leaving Jeffrey's air-conditioned environs was none too appealing on a 90+ degree day. After a ten-minute go-round, I turned to leave, despondent yet relieved at not having emptied my wallet. And then, désastre! On my way out, I caught sight of this trio of sky high suede wedges from Celine Fall 2010. The picture does no justice these beauties -- they're so much lovelier in person.
The green called to me in particular, telling me to pay no mind to the others and reminding me of the time I passed up a gorgeous pair of green suede Miu Mius in favor of more practical, less interesting black. Unfortunately, this chance at redemption would cost me upwards of $800, and since I have never and should never part with such a sum for a pair of shoes which do not also possess magical powers, I quelled the stirrings within by reminding myself of all the starving people in the world that could be fed and clothed for a year on less than that, while silently praying they'd someday go on sale at a more conscience-friendly price. However, as I cast one last longing glance over my shoulder, I sensed that this encounter was to be both our first and last.

The sunglasses of my dreams are $695 away. Of all of Persol's iconic designs, the Ratti in dark tortoise is my absolute favorite. Oh, how I'd love to hide behind those dark brown lenses.

Fantasy Friday: Chair Porn
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
I've been in love with Jonathan Adler's adorable blue Mrs. Godfrey chair since spotting it online, and I recently stopped by the Greenwich Ave. shop to check it out in person. Alas, the shop had closed at 7, but there it was perched in the window, looking so, so fine. I stood and stared for a good five minutes, salivating over it on the sidewalk. It achieves the magical balance of style and comfort, and has such personality. Sigh. I must start saving.
The Mrs. Godfrey is actually the companion chair to the Mr. Godfrey. Though he's stylish in his own right, she's a bit softer and more chic than her man. You can choose your own fabric, but I rather like it as is. Prices vary depending on the fabric grade and start at $1,495. It's shown here in Cashin Ocean in a Grade 5, which would set you back $1,695. It comes with an espresso base, but if you want walnut legs, you'll have to cough up another $300.
My dream team of chairs:
The Cherner armchair. Our CCO at work has a couple of these in his office and I am stabbed with longing every time I catch sight of them. I love the rich walnut hue, beautiful, streamlined shape and embracing arc of the arms. $1,149 @ Design Within Reach.
I've always wanted a set of Tolix A chairs scattered about my kitchen to use as all purpose furniture (perhaps as a handy step stool, balcony chair, or improvised shelf).
Here's a pretty red one, $275 @ The Conran Shop.
A fun, bright green screams Spring. $275 @ Antiquaire (where you can custom order any color your heart desires).
Or go for a raw, rustic look with the unfinished Brut Verni Mat.
For more eye candy, check out the Tolix gallery at Antiquaire! Beautiful vintage finds, including this 18-piece set:
And for dining? Thonet's Bentwoods are my dream bistro chairs. Classic and chic, they'd add a sophisticated touch to any meal. Designed by German cabinet maker Michael Thonet in the 1800's, they're made in Poland and the Czech Republic at original Thonet factories. The No. 14 chair runs $361 a pop (including shipping) at Bauhaus 2 Your House.
And here's the cafe-ready 14 with a cane seat:, $395 @ Bauhaus 2 Your House.

Fantasy Friday: Pepe is His Name
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
I've generally never gone for It bags (with the exception of a Balenciaga Classique in 2005, but who among us could resist its charms back then?), preferring instead its subtler, but no less attractive cousin in a collection. I am, however, hopelessly obsessed with Givenchy's glorious V-shaped creation in wrinkled leather. It takes all the strength I can muster to keep from flinging myself out of doors and dashing towards DUMBO just so I can cradle it in my arms at Zoe. Shopkeeps, if you are reading this, ready yourselves with a restraining order, for I may very well be lurking outside your store at this very moment, trying to peep into your windows for a glimpse of it. I fear that once it's dangling on my arm I won't be able to let go.
Curiously, Zoe lists it as the New V Pepe, but I can't seem to spot the difference between this style and the Tinhan Old Pepe. Anyone have a clue?
Givenchy New V Pepe Wrinkled Leather in black, $1, 270 @ Zoe.

Fantasy Friday: a Birthday Frock from 3.1 Phillip Lim
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
I had a lovely, low-key birthday last year, opting to quietly indulge myself with decadent treats rather than court a headache by attempting to plan a night out in NYC, but this year has me wanting to pull out all the stops and have a great big party. Whether I go bowling or dance til dawn, I'd love to do it in a sparkly, spangly, birthday-girl dress. In reality, I'll probably be far too busy to give it a thought until the last minute, but in my mind, I'll be twirling around in this gorgeous 3.1 Phillip Lim number.

Fantasy Friday: Sitting Pretty on Flocks Poufs
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
I first started seeing these chunky knit ottomans/poufs by Christien Meindertsma (aka Flocks) on the design blog circuit last year and instantly fell for their cute shapes and cozy, tactile appeal. I've held off on posting them due to their exorbitant price tag, but it's Fantasy Friday, New York is buried under snow, and I'm craving some warmth in my life. I want nothing more than dry socks on my feet, an enormous bowl of hot chocolate to cup with both hands, and a comfy pouf on which to sit and collect myself after a miserable day of trekking 'round in the slush.
Flocks Urchin Pouf, $800 for the medium size @ DWR.
Actually, there is one more thing that would make this little scene complete: Christien coming to my apartment with her giant needles and rope-like yarn to knit yard after yard of soft, chunky material with which to blanket my home, like so:
Looks like spaghetti!
Flocks also makes the Texel Ottoman, which looks like a giant ball of yarn. Me likey.
If you're snowed in and feeling arts-and-craftsy, you can try your hand at knitting your own pouf.

Fantasy Friday: Philip Treacy's Headpieces Blow My Mind
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
When it comes to modern day millinery, Philip Treacy is tops. In an imaginary world in which hats actually look good on me and I have scads of invites to smashing soirees and fabulous fetes that merit, nay demand, an over-the-top accessory, he's my man. In my fantastical visions of what old age will be like, I play a fashion industry dignitary so venerable that I get away with sporting extravagant headpieces on the regular, placing everything from floral arrangements to birds atop my batty little head, and Treacy's sculptural creations would be just the ticket.
Philip Treacy double disc woven headpiece, $1,235 @ Net-a-Porter.
Philip Treacy sculptural headpiece in fuchsia, $1,185 @ Net-a-Porter.
Philip Treacy Sculptural bow and feather headpiece
Philip Treacy Teardrop lace and feather headpiece, a whopping $2,015 @ Net-a-Porter.

Fantasy Friday: Balenciaga in Blue, and Perfect YSL Pumps
In which we shop with imaginary money and indulge our fanciest fancies.
For those of you in NYC who haven't met Michelle Sellers at Jeffrey yet, befriend her ASAP so you can get on her email list. She'll send you pics of new arrivals from their incredible shoe department, which is truly a menagerie of rare and exotic marvels, and notify you in advance of sales. She recently introduced me to the perfect pair of black YSL pumps, which have had me drooling uncontrollably ever since.
Yves Saint Laurent Black Suede Pumps (also available in fuchsia), $640 @ Jeffrey. Call (212) 206-1272 or email michelles@jeffreynewyork.com to order. It's the sexiest shape, and the inconspicuous platform gives you a little extra oomph.
I've been over "It" bags for the past several years, and even though I feel vaguely nauseous everytime I see one, I really wouldn't mind toting around this electric blue Balenciaga Arena. Balenciaga Arena Classic Day in Outremer, $1,095 @ Barneys.
